I say that because the strike killed the Expos (remember that strike shortened team? look it up on b-r and be amazed at the talent). They were in first that year, they didnt go the World Series and then after that no one went to their games. A combination of the strike and bad baseball almost killed the Twins (thank goodness for the '01 season!)

I think enough time has passed where its 'forgive and forget' time about the Strike and the replacement players. since there only 2 of them left. But it would be an interesting read for a retrospective about all that business. It took baseball quite awhile to recover from that. The prevailing thought is the McGwire/Sosa summer of 98 turned the corner again, but I think the effects of the strike and fans lasted until into the 2000's

According to the Brian Murphy article, Pirates reliever Brendan Donnelly is the only other remaining replacement player. The strike seems, to me, like it was so long ago that I was surprised there were any replacement players left, especially since one would assume the replacements weren't exactly guys with "can't miss" potential. It sounds like a lot of the Twins were all for getting Mahay on board since they had trouble hitting him themselves, but it makes me wonder what the feelings are of Thome and maybe some of the coaches, who have been around long enough to have been affected. It was a nasty situation at the time.

I knew that Mahay was a replacement player, but I didnt realize there were only 2 left. I was reminded of the Strike and replacement players the other week when Channel 5 did a story on Kevin Millar signing with the St. Paul Saints. I knew he was a replacement player
