I think Slowey is a fabulous pitcher. I think he’s probably having to make some adjustments with his surgery. I think that there’s a good possibility that the screws in his wrist that is leading to his change in his pitching this year. I think by the all-star break he’ll be good and back in his fine form! I think putting him in the bullpen would slow him down and not be good for him.

We could devote an entire post to the Kevin Slowey issue (and a lot of other bloggers have, lately). I like Slowey. I was at the game in Oakland a couple years back when he made his MLB debut . I still have hopes that he’s going to be a very successful starting pitcher for the Twins.

But he’s really not pitching well right now and I think it might do him some good to take a break from the rotation and let the Twins see what they have in Duensing (who’s been pitching very well). I’m not sure I agree that Slowey “deserves” his spot in the rotation right now, but I do believe the Twins will NEED him to be a starting pitcher as this season goes along. I’d be hoping a little break would allow him to start missing more bats and getting through more innings when he pitches.

He deserves to be a starter just as much as everyone else. He’s having a rough year, everyone has them. Look at Frankie last season or the season before that. Slowey deserves to be a starter, not a bull pen member.
