I say if we play the Rays, Butera should catch for Pavano.
I heard Gardy on Pat Reusse's show today. He said Pavano had a sore neck, but still wanted the ball last night. He said that Pavano has thrown a ton of innings this year and is wearing down (Gardy noted that Pavano was at 88-89 on his fastball instead of 90-92) so having Baker start and bumping Pavano is most definitely in the cards, its just a matter of getting Baker straight and stretched out a bit with bullpen sessions and whatnots

Just had to pass along this link... if you only read one other blog post today (besides this one, of course), make it Stu at Twinkie Town's post at http://www.twinkietown.com/2010/9/17/1693353/the-conversation-gardy-breaks-the

And yeah, jamar, I know I'm defying the baseball gods a bit with some of this stuff, but it really just comes down to being practical. You don't beat a horse to death coming down the stretch when you've got a 20 length lead. We certainly wouldn't want to unnecessarily risk an injury to a key player and we have a couple of pitchers who have already thrown a bunch of innings. I don't suggest anyone stop trying to win, but let's just be prudent about things right now.
