GameChat – Twins @ Tigers #2, 6:05

Written by CapitalBabs

I haven’t had a chance to check out any news of the day other than JC reporting that Liriano was working out as usual after his short start last night so I’m just going to take that and run with it. The Twins are still in first place in the American League but the Rays have pulled up into a tie with the Yankees a half game back. I love that excitement.

There hasn’t been much news from the Morneau front recently other than if he’s feeling good, Gardy will throw him in and get him so AB’s but until then, getting him in this season or post-season is not his priority – healthy is his only concern and if that takes time off until next March, that’s just the way it is.

Let’s hope tonight’s game isn’t as odd and isn’t as poorly officiated.

Minnesota @ Detroit
Span, CF   Jackson, A, CF
Hudson, O, 2B   Kelly, LF
Young, D, LF   Damon, DH
Cuddyer, 1B   Cabrera, M, 1B
Kubel, DH   Peralta, J, SS
Valencia, 3B   Boesch, RF
Hardy, SS   Inge, 3B
Repko, RF   Avila, C
Butera, C   Santiago, 2B
Pavano, P   Bonderman, P

Minnesota 5 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 10 16 2
Detroit 1 1 0 5 2 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 11 21 2

Ok, none of the Knuckleball “officials” actually watched enough innings of last night’s game to be able to comment with any intelligence on a regular length game much less  last night’s marathon.  If you REALLY want to see how things went in more detail than the link in the boxscore tells you, you can check out the play-by-play.

So I’m just going to limit my comments to ..  there was some good, there was some bad and we didn’t walk away with it in the end – which really sucks after going 13 innings.  Here’s the Twins page report on the game.

*** addition: Dewluca added an additional link in the comments sharing some of the injury concerns the team has now and Gardy’s general reaction.

well that looked fine until I hit submit . . . Babs or JC you can delete these last two comments (and maybe you can fix the link) . . . apparently there is a limit on the length of links in comments?

I think the link worked fine, dew.

I think we’re all getting a bit concerned about the injuries mounting up right now. I can’t really fault Gardy for not pushing guys to play who are bumped and bruised. They should have home field for the first round, as is. After that, you take what you can get, but the most important thing is getting everyone healthy and keeping them that way.

As Babs just posted in the summary, none of us saw enough of the game to write a summary. I saw the first inning and the last half inning. Which had to be the extremes of good and bad for the Twins. I will say that I’m disappointed by the amount of Flores bashing I saw on Twitter after the game. The bases were loaded when Flores came in with nobody out, thanks to Neshek giving up hits and Valencia booting a ground ball that should have been a DP ball. But fans “like” those two guys so everyone beats him up for getting one ground ball and giving up one single. I thought Twins fans were more baseball-savvy than that. Maybe I was wrong. Flores is what he is. journeyman lefty reliever. But he didn’t deserve the crap he was getting from people about the game last night, imo.

looks like you deleted my comment with the actual comments and the link . . . rather than my later comments about the link not being the complete URL . . .

I’ll try again . . . because now I am even more concerned that the Twins have given up trying for home field advantage . . . My concerns were heightened by Gardy’s comments in the news article entitled: Ailing Twins stars recuperating in Detroit:
    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100925&content_id=15076990&notebook_id=15102312&vkey=notebook_min&c_id=min&partnerId=rss_min#15076992

Sounds like “we’ll just ease into the post-season” rather than “we still have work to do” is the Twins attitude. Unfortunately, that’s not likely to PREPARE the Twins for the post-season.
Anyway, I agree I’d like to forget this series . . . but the Yankees and Tampa Bay continue to play baseball (rather than hospital) . . . I for one don’t think this bodes well for our post-season hopes and dreams.

Dew, I deleted both comments because while the link was actually there, the complete text wasn’t included in the comment – and THEN, I put the link in the post – so adding it in the comments again wasn’t necessary.
