I’ve been reading translations of the Japanese news reports and they are SO FUNNY. I kept getting confused by references to “the tree military” and “the army of trees”, until I realized that is how it translates some reference to the Minnesota Twins!

And, of course: “Including a jersey, hot contract outweigh the cold body tremble.”

WE’RE GONNA WIN, TREE ARMY! WE’RE GOING TO SCORE!

Yeah, obviously we knew the translations would be a joke and I hope any of our new Japanese friends know that. I’ve tried running some of the Japanese news reports, too, and it’s pretty funny.

And I’m all for adding some “colour” (you didn’t learn that spelling in North Dakota, SeNDai!) on the Twins. But then, I was one of those kids who thought Hawk Harrelson’s flair was something to be emulated back in the 1960s (yes… THAT “Hawk Harrelson”… he was cool, dammit!)

I’m little concerned, however, with how that style will play with the locals. Those Germans, Norwegians and Swedes up there are not exactly known for their… “colour” (and I say that as a proud German-Norwegian myself!).

I’m also so excited! I have been Google Translating Japanese news stories about him (they are following this much more closely than anyone here)–SOOOOO much fun trying to figure out what they are saying (since the translations are… well…)

I read some reports–it seems the Japanese media over there are reporting on what the media here is saying! I think they told Tsuyoshi what TwinsCentric had to say about him, and he was determined to prove that his arm is fine and that he can hit better than they think! I love it!!!

Yeah, I’m the same guy from Japan (well from ND actually) who checked in last time.

The chant is correct, and doesn’t need a translation.
The translator program may not be a good idea, if you’re looking to consistently up your Japan hits to Japanese fans. With help from Google, you probably will.
I could understand what it is saying, but my wife immediately responded. 　変な日本語！
Translation: Funny Japanese (not in the humorous way!)

I do agree with your assessment of bringing a little excitement and colour into the Twins world should prove interesting. At least I’m already getting to see some of the insides of Target Field on the Japanese news. #1 Sports story here today.

Most of the Japanese baseball players (maybe accept Matsui Hideki) are this kind of fashionable! Maybe best comparison, style-wise is Shingo (who went to the Mets).

Whatever heppens, I don’t think it will be dull.
