ST – Twins @ Red Sox, MLB.tv & am1500

Boy do I like typing post titles like that!  I’m not sure how many people are going to have access to listening to the game on the radio today like me so I don’t think anyone would USE a gamechat – however, if I get a couple comments from people who would like one, I’ll put it up ASAP.  So if you pop in and want to chat with other fans, let me know in the comments and I’ll add it.  But for now, here’s the lineups for today!  Pitchers for today are expected to be: Blackburn, Slowey, Perkins, Slama, Hoey, Guerra, Bromberg, Hacker, Waldrop

Minnesota @ Boston
Revere, LF   Ellsbury, CF
Plouffe, SS   Pedroia, 2B
Kubel, DH   Crawford, LF
Hughes, L, 3B   Ortiz, D, DH
Bailey, J, 1B   Drew, J, RF
Dinkelman, RF   Varitek, C
Tolbert, 2B   Dlugach, B, SS
Rivera, Re, C   Sutton, 1B
Repko, CF   Navarro, Y, 3B
  Blackburn, P     Matsuzaka, P

  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Minnesota 1 0 3 0 2 0 0 0 0 6 10 1
Boston 0 0 3 0 0 2 2 0   7 11 2

Well unfortunately, that leaves the Twins and Red Sox tied up for the Mayors Cup trophy so far with a win a piece.  Don’t forget that you can click on any name in the lineups and get that player’s stats MLB stats page or any spot in the box score and get the MLB detail page for the game.

We did get one request (almost) for a game chat for this game and I’m more than happy to put them up for these day games if people will use them but I’m not going to worry about the effort if folk don’t speak up.  There are a LOT of day games during spring training and I just don’t know how many people have access to the radio during the day.  LET ME HEAR FROM YOU!

  1. When I first saw the Twins lineup, my first thought was that they were going to be hearing from the MLB office about not taking at least a couple of “starters” to a road game (MLB instituted some kind of guideline about that a few years back because some teams *cough* Yankees *cough* weren’t taking any of their regulars on road games), but then it dawned on me that the Twins don’t HAVE many of their starters healthy right now. I guess having Kubel and two members of their starting rotation appearing maybe meets the minimum requirement. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Boston retaliate with a bunch of B-teamers at Tuesday’s return visit to Hammond Stadium.

Oh… and for anyone who missed Sunday’s game (and even if you didn’t miss it), you really need to check out TwinkieTown’s “Entirely Made up Game Notes”. Funny stuff on a Monday morning!

  2. I knew it was likely but I’m still kind of amused that Gordo can’t a) pronounce Nishioka properly and b) can’t seem to pronounce it the same way twice in a row.

I’m really intrigued to see how this is going to work for Blyleven eventually! LOL

  3. For some reason, Im getting no sound at the office via the MLB.com audio feed (and I cant get the video at work), so I’m apparently relegated to following on GameDay today. Ah well. WTG Kubes!

woo hoo… got the sound now. I’m set to go for the afternoon. Now if I can just keep people from bugging me in the office.

  4. weird – guess everyone is a little rusty yet since it’s still early in spring training. I hope they get that fixed soon because there really isn’t any other way to follow the games if you aren’t in the Twins radio affiliate area.

I was wondering that the other day – how you could go about getting a radio affiliate in CR.

  5. I don’t think there’s anything I can do to get a radio affiliate here. The Twins have to make it worth the while of a station to carry them. We didn’t have a WhiteSox radio affiliate either, until the year after they won the WS. Funny how something like that affects commercial interest.

Speaking of rusty… I’m pretty sure Gordon credited Luke Huges with that last snag to end the inning, even though it was Tolbert who got the ball in RF.

  6. Yeah, he always has an issue with names (at least the last few season) but usually someone corrects him right away. That doesn’t seem to be happening right now.

  7. Well the sound keeps cutting out so I may give up and just glance at GameDay once in a while. Could be a bandwidth problem here at the office. Good to see Luke go deep, though!

  8. d’oh.. Big Papi strikes again with a 3R homer… Walks will haunt which Twins pitchers know well. At least the Twins are still on top right now 4-3.

  9. woohoo.. Hughes with another long hit (this time it stays in the park) gets Plouffe in to make the score 5-3.. it’s fun to see some of these young hitters doing well.

  10. Personally, no point in a GameChat on my account for weekday day games because my firewall at work won’t allow access to the chat program. But if there’s enough interest among the others, go for it!

  11. re: Twins radio in Iowa. I saw that that Twins picked up an affiliate in Des Moines. 1700 KBGG. does that reach your area?

  12. Not usually a lot of reception for Des Moines radio stations this far away (about 2 hours), but I’ll have to see if I can pull in 1700 next time I’m home for a game, James. Thanks for the heads-up.

  13. @CapitalBabs: I do believe there is a John Gordon drinking game:

If he mispronounces any part of a players name: 1 drink
If he pronounces it differently every time: 2 drinks at each “new” pronunciation
If he tries to pronounce it and gives up, a la Bob Uecker in “Major League:” CHUG

  14. Shannon, that is AMAZING! TOTALLY worth it for the few games he’s doing this year!! definitely might have to add that in to any particular gatherings we host this year. I love it.

  15. Twins radio affiliates are really strange. Last fall, I was driving home from the Black Hills and thought maybe there would be coverage from Rapid City, but there was nothing officially listed that far west. Imagine my surprise when I was flipping stations south of Gillette and suddenly heard Gordon and Gladden on my radio. Aside from some issues when mountains were in the way, I carried that station (which was indeed coming out of Rapid) all the way to about 20 miles west of Casper. Who knew you could get Twins radio broadcasts in Wyoming? It makes me wonder how many other stations are out there on the fringes of Twins territory that occasionally carry Twins games.
