CORRECTION !!! Jack Morris has 254 career wins. Jack Morris was a dominating pitcher of his era. He was on two World Series winning teams. Every pitch he threw as a ML pitcher had a purpose. He was a leader in the clubhouse and he had a great respect for the game. Yes, he belongs in the HOF. Who would you rather have the ball in his hand in a game seven of the World Series - Jack Morris or Don Sutton? No offense toward Don Sutton either. Fill in any HOF starting pitcher or Jack Morris? Morris wins over 50% of all HOF starting pitchers.

Jack Morris was a great pitcher. He has 162 wins. Jim Kaat has 283 wins plus a ton of Gold Gloves. He was a good hitting pitcher and he was often used as a pinch hitter and a pinch runner. If he had 17 more wins he would have been in the HOF years ago. My vote would have gone to Kaat.
While Santo was a very solid player, I never would have elected him to the HOF. He was good just not good enough.

Interesting post. I totally get what you mean about the special moments in baseball, like 61 for 61 and Morris' game 7.

One thing to keep in mind. The "shrine" part with the Hall of Famers and the plaques is only about 1/5th of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The rest is the Museum part that has about half of it dedicated to those special moments.

So those special moments are already in Coopersburg, whether someone like Morris needs to be among the enshrined, is an interesting discussion. His game 7, rest asure, is enshrined there already (as is the Cardinals' latest World Series win.)
