The Twins moves were a LOT better.

Signing two aging players to four year contracts is a great way to extend your losing streak for a long time. Swisher and Bourne are fine players, but neither one is likely to be part of a championship team four years from now. Mark Reynolds is an all or nothing slugger, mostly nothing, and probably belongs at first base. Daisuke Matsuzaka is worthless. In his BEST year of the last four he pitched 153 innings with a 4.69 ERA. Cleveland traded away Shin-Soo Choo and immediately spent a bunch of money on a replacement in Swisher.

Worley, Correa, Pelfry and Harden were much better choices. The Twins added a bunch of other bullpen possibilities. And they traded away two center fielders who they could part with because they had three guys waiting to compete as replacements. They are making exactly the kinds of moves they need to make to become contenders again. If a lot goes right, that could be this year. But even if a lot goes wrong, they are likely to have made progress back toward being in contention.
