Here’s the deal for today – I’m going to miss the beginning of the game so that is the time commenters will have to tell me whether or not they want a chat put up. I’ll be back about 12:30 and will put one up if requested.
The big news is that Nathan should have his first game situation pitching!! I really wish I had the ability to see that first hand instead of just listen to someone else’s opinion of how things are going for him. Here’s the pitchers expected today: pitchers for today’s game: Baker, Nathan, Mijares, Gibson, Gutierrez, Bazardo, Bromberg, Waldrop, & Guerra.

Boy is it good to remind yourself right now that these are EARLY spring training games because that was kind of painful. Shut outs are never fun to begin with but yeah, it was a lot of very raw baesball. The best news was Joe Nathan pitching off the mound in a game situation!! He managed one complete inning with nothing remarkable either good or bad and throwing between 86-90 mph. That’s about where he’s usually at this time of year so he felt REALLY good about his outing today and I can’t help but be a little encouraged that one of my favorite hurlers is so obviously on the mend.
OK… well.. it’s the top of the 4th inning and this game sure is a yawner so far, even for a ST game. Once again, I don’t have audio, so I’m just following on GameDay (which is pretty crappy during ST games), so I have been actually working most of the past hour and just checking in occasionally. I’m assuming Scott Baker was pulled with 2 out in the 2nd inning because he reached a pitch count limit or something and not because of something health related… but if there’s more to it than that, someone drop a note or something, will ya?
In the mean time, maybe our guys should… oh… I dunno… hit the friggin ball once in a while?
it’s been a pretty slow game.. and I think that Baker was having a bit of an issue still… now it’s fun to hear Nathan in now but they don’t have any MPH on his pitches in the booth. It’s so boring that Dazzle and Gordo or actually rehashing how good we did on the trade getting Nathan and Liriano… *mind numbing*
and now Dazzle is just repeating the same points I made about Nathan returning as a reliever in less time because he doesn’t have to get into shape to pitch more than one inning..
Looks like Nathan at least got through an inning without hurting himself. 1BB no Ks, but his arm is still attached.
Yeah, it seemed like a decent first outting on the mound – just wish I knew what the mph on those fastballs came out as.
according to Twitter however: TwinsNow – this gun isn’t terribly trustworthy, but showed Nathan hit 90 and 91. #Twins
a single and a walk in the 4th among 3 infield popouts? Seriously? I’m probably better off not paying attention. I know it’s March 1.
Star Tribune is twittering that Nathan looked pretty good and jammed the last hitter he faced. The way this game is going, this might be the most exciting news for Twins fans.
Welcome to “the Show”, Kyle Gibson and Joe Benson… the minor league clubhouse is down the sidewalk about 100 yards that way ——–>
Feel free to keep your pretty Twins jerseys as a parting gift and come back again next year!
(Too harsh?)
Couple of ground outs and a bunt popout in the 5th. I’m starting to wonder why the RedSox even bother sending their outfielders out to the field.
it’s just a spring training game JC, you have to expect it to be … limited. Don’t expect regular season gamesmanship yet! LOL
Sorry, Babs… I was just thinking back to the good old days when our regulars hit the ball well and our prospects hit the ball well and we won ST games and everything was cool. When was that anyway?
Sunday?
that won’t happen until the minor league spring training starts in a couple weeks – then we’ll start cutting all the babies out of the big league show and we’ll have our big hitters back in the lineup – even if not deep into the game. So give it until at least March 10th, I think.
I’ll do better than that. I’ll give it until March 16th. By then, I expect to see people impressing, dammit!
Of course, it’s just a coincidence that the 16th coincides with the first game I’ll be down there to see in person.
LMAO I think that sounds like a fantastic compromise! and I hope that they are sure impressing by then myself.
Fine. But seriously… a couple of Danny Valencia ground balls with eyes is all that’s keeping this from being a ST no-hitter. That’s not good… even for March 1.
I wonder what Gordo actually asking Dazzle who a batter is because he clearly doesn’t have any idea who that person is means in Shannon’s drinking game…
it does make for some pretty sleepy baseball – glad I’m multitasking.
I’d suggest they get Gordon a laptop so he can follow on GameDay to get the names of the hitters… but that might just make things worse.
Hope Gibson and Benson left a trail of breadcrumbs when the left for the minor league clubhouse… so Waldrop and Bromberg will be able to find them.
I dunno…the Cuddyer wart update was pretty exciting. 😉
So I thought Gibson was supposed to be “it” this year?
It was pretty funny that Gordo and Dazzle were sort of wondering aloud why Waldrop had been with the club for 7 years and hadn’t made it yet. And then he started to pitch. Oh yes. That’s why.
