GameChat – Rangers @ Twins, 7:10

I’m putting this up a little early because KL and I are going to the game and I am planning to celebrate my birthday.. well.  So the Twins better win it for me!!  At the time of this posting, final lineups haven’t been posted to MLB yet so you’ll have to deal with the preliminary list they give the media (thanks Joe C.) and that list has BOTH Alexi Casilla and Nick Punto listed at 3B.  That will be a game time decision based on how Nicky’s finger is responding to BP.  Sorry no fancy lineup chart today.

Kevin Slowey, you are the Knuckleballs' Boyfriend of the Day!

Happy birthday to Babs! She and KL got to see a great game to celebrate the birthday.

GameChat BOD honors go to Kevin Slowey for finally breaking through the 6 inning barrier with a 1-run, 6.2 inning effort. Baked goods for the bullpen trio of Mijares, Guerrier and Rauch for slamming the door and to Orlando Hudson for some remarkable plays on defense. -JC

GameChat – Yankees @ Twins #3, 7:10 pm

I am never happier than when we are finally done with the Yankees.  I would like to see our pitching continue to be stellar but I would appreciate it if our offense would attend to scoring individuals who are already on base.  And frankly, the much vaunted lack of homeruns doesn’t bother me at all and I think perhaps the boys should get that crap out of their minds and just hit when it counts instead of trying to put it over the wall.  It’s pissing me off.  Just because we have a lineup that CAN hit homeruns doesn’t mean every swing should try to be one.  And funny, but it seems like they start hitting them like crazy every time they quit trying….  Just saying…

I’ll be at a Church Choir picnic for the first part of the game – diligently listening on my pocket radio & headphones however – so I won’t be joining you until partway through the game.  Have fun Chatting!!

wow, that was just sooooo much fun to watch!  I wish I could have a snapshot of the look on Morneau & Mauer’s face on that first long shot – they were just so excited!!  And I couldn’t be HAPPIER to be done with the Yankees for the regular season and to see it end so well.  BOD is an OBVIOUS nod to Kubel.

Kubel with TWO homeruns and 5 RBI! YANKEE KILLER!

GameChat – Brewers @ Twins Part Deux, Sat. 3:10 pm

Can we order up a game JUST like the one last night, please?

Babs and KL are at Target Field today and I’m doing some manual labor this afternoon so I’m not all that sure who will or won’t be around for the GameChat, but I hope everyone enjoys the game, wherever you are!

Well that took a little longer than it needed to, but it all worked out in the end, right?

Consensus in the GameChat was that four hits, scoring the winning run, and catching 12 innings earns Joe Mauer Boyfriend of the Day honors. I’m going to award baked goods to Jason Kubel for FINALLY coming through with a game winning RBI (though it would have been nice if he had done so on either of his first two opportunities).

The Chairman Rules!

Mauer earns BOD, with baked goods for Kubel.

I believe we decided to go with Blackburn for BOD but a great big ol’ celebratory cake for Trevor Plouffe for arriving in such a grand way.  Good job man!

GameChat – Twins @ Toronto, 6:05

Well it certainly feels a LOT better going into Toronto with the win yesterday. I woul dlike to keep that mood going please!

Toronto 0 2 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 3 11 2

It’s nice to win games on the road again!  And it’s even nicer to be winning at an indoor park knowing that eventually home games will be outside.  There were sure some weird moments tonight though and I feel bad for Overbay who I think got screwed on that second error – totally didn’t deserve it OR the boos from his own fans.  Breaking Commandment #1, they were!

Chat consensus gives the BOD to Justin for not only finally loosening up and hitting in Toronto but hitting WELL.  Two homeruns is nothing to sneeze at!

FINALLY!!

Ok, really it’s hard to contain the excitement!  Both the people on the radio or in the chat room… just so many things you could say but I think everyone feels the same about finally beating the Yankees in Yankee Stadium.  The very idea that it happened in such a dramatic fashion against Rivera – first blown save at home since 2007 and he hasn’t given up a Grand Slam since 2002.  But you knew this was going to be an odd day when he WALKED Thome with the bases loaded.  But without doubt, kudos of the day go to Jason Kubel who comes in with the bases loaded to break two jinxes – Yankee Stadium and Bases-Loaded HR!  So thank you to our BOD!!

And the Chat bestows piles of baked goods on Blackburn and the Bullpen for the FANTASTIC pitching of the day.  And we’ll even let Gardy have one as long as he doesn’t share with Ullger.

Delmon Young Day… looking back with a smile

Seems today was designated as “Delmon Young Day” in the Twins blogosphere. Don’t ask me why.

I really don’t have strong feelings with regard to Delmon. He’s young. He’s talented. He’s been a little bit of a disappointment, overall, since his arrival in Twins Territory from Tampa Bay, I suppose, but he showed us all something by showing up at Spring Training about 30 pounds lighter this season and his mobility has reflected it. But if you really want to read a bunch of stuff about Delmon, let me suggest that you check out:

OK, that should be plenty for you to read this evening about Delmon, right? Truth is, I have to be honest… I haven’t read ANY of those posts about DY. I worked late and simply don’t feel strongly enough about Delmon to spend too much time reading others’ opinions of the guy.

But it just didn’t seem right somehow not to read ANYTHING about him. So, as I tend to do from time to time, I turned my attention back to where my blog origins took root… Batgirl. And it made me smile all over again.

In case you may not recall… or simply never knew… that the arrival of Delmon Young was such a big deal in Twinsland that it brought Batgirl out of ‘retirement’ briefly (much, much too briefly). She posted this on MnGameday back in November, 2007. I strongly encourage you to take this stroll with me down memory lane tonight (and enjoy LEGOvision with me, one more time!).

Oh, and just for the heck of it, since it’s “his day” and all, let’s give Delmon Young “Boyfriend of the Day” award for his 3 hits (including 2 doubles) and a run scored in the Twins 3-2 win over the BitchSox today!

GameChat – Orioles @ Twins #4, 1:10, WFTC29 & am1500

Well, it seems the boys might have an issue with DAY GAMES so I hereby challenge them to PROVE THAT WRONG!  (can’t hurt to try, right?)  It would be nice to split the series here but after the double-header yesterday, boy do we have some “interesting” lineups today.

INJURY UPDATES: JJ Hardy tried throwing and he’s still pretty sore so they are estimating possibly Tuesday for his return. Joe Mauer made a pinch hitter appearance last night – very exciting – but struck out. So I’m glad he’s back in the lineup today even if it’s only as a DH. Mijares made a rehab appearance down in the minors that didn’t go so well… no word on what’s next on his schedule. Still nothing on how Pat Neshek is doing after getting a correct diagnosis.

Happy Mothers Day everyone!

Well now that was MUCH better!  I like that we split the series and such a beautiful day of baseball.

And although it was just KL and I in the chat at the end of the game, we selected Denard Span as our BOD!  A triple, 3 RBI and that fantastic catch to end the game.  That was enough for us!

Denard Span

I guess we’ll give this another try today.  We still have two games left in this series and I would like to see the boys make a go of it.

Chat consensus selected Scott Baker for BOD – and I decided to give a cookie to Butera just because of his timely hitting.

FINALLY!!!  They did it!!  In honor of the first Sweep of the season, Knuckleballs would like to ask you which graphic we should use to celebrate a sweeped series.  Click on the little camera on the side to see each one before you vote!

And discussion in the Chat selected Denard Span as BOD for a truly excellent outting (I would have picked him for that highly entertaining attempted catch in the OF alone).

Denard Span on base as usual...
