GameChat – WORLD SERIES GAME #4, Giants @ Rangers, 7:00 pm

Maybe it’s just me but there are several unfamiliar names on the Giants roster tonight.  And I have to admit that somehow, this game feels… like a wednesday?  Not the actual day of the week but some sort of middle of the duration hump that is lacking in energy.  I would love for the game itself to prove that feeling wrong.

Ok, Bumgarner really had a great outting tonight – as a rookie in the World Series it’s hard enough just to start.  But he’s the 4th youngest pitcher in the history of the game to get the WIN in a WS game much less go 8 innings of shutout baseball.  Good job Giants – let’s see what happens tomorrow!

Time for the Rangers to take advantage of homefield – I’m sure the fans in Texas are beside themselves to have the October Classic finally make an appearance.  Let’s hope the Rangers offense does too!

Definitely was the game for the Rangers to enjoy their homefield advantage – and win their second post-season game at home no less!   Definitely looking forward to game #4 to see if this is going to get all tied up.  I know a lot of people are predicting that these two teams will go to game #7 because of the fairly even matchup.  We’re almost halfway there!

GameChat – WORLD SERIES GAME 2, Rangers @ Giants, 6:30 pm

Ok, they SAY the game starts at 6:30 (central) but as last night proved, that’s when all the pregame festivities start and the actual game probably won’t start until 7 pm.  Just a heads up.  I really want to see CJ Wilson kick a little butt tonight – metaphorically speaking… (literally would be fun though).

Is anyone else a little weirded out that Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum … well… they kind of look alike?  Seriously!  They could almost be father and son!  Ok, maybe brothers..  but still.

But superficial distractions aside, YAY!!!!  The World Series is here!  I’m actually interested enough to watch! AND I don’t have to watch yet another east coast team so BONUS!  Ok, yes, I have a bias and I’m probably in the minority and the bosses over at Fox are having fits worrying that there won’t be enough ratings – maybe they won’t renew the contract and someone with better announcers and less commercial interruption can broadcast but for now, this is what we have.

The American League Champions sent the Yankees home for another off-season.  Congratulations and I’ll be cheering you all the way to the end!

GameChat – Phillies @ Giants NLCS #5, FOX, 6:30

Interesting how both leagues Championship Series went to 3-1?  Last night’s game was very interesting but.. very long.  In fact, BOTH games yesterday were torturously long for 9 inning games.  NOW, I know why MLB has been trying to institute measures to “speed up games”.  Too bad they aren’t enforcing them on a) teams that are actually causing the problems and b) TV networks that drag out games with additional commercial breaks.  That definitely is going to drive away viewers, not draw them which I am pretty sure is the general point of television broadcasts.

I hope tonight doesn’t keep me up later than the laundry I have to do…  Of course, given the piles of laundry, let’s hope I am done with that before the World Series starts.

GameChat – ALCS Game 5: Rangers @ Yankees

The game is already in to the 2nd inning as I post this, but let’s see if we can all send our positive, if somewhat (at least in my case) margarita-influenced, energies in the direction of the Rangers. I’d like nothing more than to see them beat Captain Cheeseburger and his buddies and celebrate on the field in front of the Yankee faithful (at least those that don’t leave early, like they have en masse the last two games). – JC

As for tonight’s game, here’s the info you want.  I won’t be around for the chat but at least it will be open available for those who are starting to really get caught up in a great series.  I LOVED seeing the Rangers take it to the Yankees last night.  Now they are ahead 2-1 and the Yankees are behind the 8 ball at home.  Of course, they seem to respond fairly strongly to that situation as a rule so I sense we’ll see some real fight from the NY boys tonight.  Gut instinct tells me that this will have a LOT more scoring for both teams than last night… we’ll have to see how this goes.

That was fun to watch the end of – kind of wish I had seen more of the game.  Now that the Rangers are up 3-1 and have taken 2 from the Yankees on their home grass with a chance to end the entire series tomorrow, I think we have all learned one very important lesson:  Nick Swisher shouldn’t play 1B.  But if he does, you should watch because it’s hilarious.  If someone ever gives him that opportunity again (unlikely) he should be required to wear a red nose and a wig when he goes out there.  And for the record, yeah, Hamilton really does know how to swing a bat – along with several other members of his team.  Nice.

Not sure whether we are going to be able to get a gamechat up for tomorrow afternoon’s game but if I can, I will because I gotta tell you that I am going to be trying to catch any part of the game I can.  Go Rangers.

OK, MLB’s page says 7:00 pm BUT I have heard that first pitch isn’t actually until 7:30.  I’m not exactly sure who to believe but.. there you go anyway.

So… Cliff Lee in NY – anyone think this might be a little bit of an audition?? I am glad that so far, it’s a split series with the Rangers.  I would fall down in a faint if the Rangers can take both here in NY but I would be ecstatic with another split series.

That was just an old fashioned butt-kicking by the Rangers! I didn’t see the first 7 innings but when Yankee Stadium is virtually empty before the home team comes up for their last swings, that says just about all you need to know. Keep it up Rangers! – JC
